Cantor Kate Judd – Biography, Spring 2024

 


Kate Judd currently teaches the Alexander Technique in Brattleboro, Vermont. She completed the 1,600 hour, three years training and received her certification to teach the Alexander Technique in 1991.  She has taught Alexander Technique and voice at several schools, colleges, and workshops including Harvard University, Bennington College, Marlboro College, the Putney School, the Wellesley Composers’ Conference, Hebrew College, Pardes Institute, and the Brattleboro Music Center. She is a past Chair of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT).


Cantor Kate received a Masters of Jewish Education in 2015 and her Ordination as a Cantor from Hebrew College in Newton, Massachusetts in 2016. Cantor Kate’s Master’s Thesis for her MJEd investigated and researched ways in which the Alexander Technique, a method of mind-body education, can deepen and expand the experience of Jewish prayer; she has taught many workshops that explore this intersection.

 


Cantor Kate has a Bachelor of Arts from Marlboro College, and an Artist Diploma from the Longy School of Music, where she studied with Sanford Sylvan. She continued her studies in Boston for several years while pursuing a career as a classical soloist. She has performed opera, oratorio, lieder, and cantorial repertoire throughout the New England area.


In addition to her work as an Alexander Technique teacher, she served as the Spiritual Leader of the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community from 2012-2021, and is currently the Interim Spiritual Leader of B’nai Torah Metrowest in Wayland, Massachusetts.
