About

Kathy Miranda

Certified in 1990

Kathryn Moeller Miranda was born in 1952 in Charlotte, North Carolina. A child of the sixties, she dropped out of college to live in a barn and work in a warehouse. Not satisfied with that life, she re-registered to study psychology and movement education, where she learned about more interesting ways of working with the interrelationship between mind and body. So, she went to New York City where she was introduced to the Alexander Technique in a class taught by Jessica Wolf at the Laban Institute for Movement Studies. Jessica’s manner of teaching convinced her that Alexander teaching was her path. She entered the training course at the American Center for the Alexander Technique (ACAT) in the Fall of 1987 to study with Judy Leibowitz, Deborah Caplan, Barbara Kent, Sarnell Ogus, Training Director Pamela Anderson and others. After graduating, she participated in ACAT’s teacher training for 15 years before moving to Syracuse, New York, where she directed a training program, graduating 3 teachers. She teaches at Syracuse University in both the Music and Drama Departments. Kathy has an ongoing interest in the neurological, physiological, and yet-to-be-understood underpinnings of the Technique. She attributes her openness and curiosity to the influence of the ACAT faculty, especially Judy Leibowitz. To honor Judy, she edited a variety of original transcripts and recordings into the book Dare To Be Wrong. She lives with her husband, John, in an eco-friendly, award-winning home in a diverse urban neighborhood.
