About

I love to move and I love music! That’s what brought me to this work. I am certified by the American Society for the Alexander Technique and have been teaching since 1990. I give private lessons in person and online and teach a regular online drop-in 'AT Sparky Hour' class every other week. Pre-pandemic I was guest faculty at Stetson University’s school of music in DeLand, Florida and made regular teaching visits to Winter Park, Florida and the Washington DC area. I’ve taught classes and workshops at Shenandoah University, George Mason University, Catholic University, University of Minnesota, UMD-Duluth, Gustavus Adolphus College and 3M.

I played the French horn professionally for many years and play the piano for fun. I’m lucky that I started my Alexander journey before my strong habits of muscular compression led me into more than moderate pain. Opening up out of my ‘horn crunch’ via Alexander principles gave me an inch of additional height, among countless other benefits. (Naturally, I love working with musicians.) I study voice and am often asked to give workshops for private vocal studios. I’m an avid student of tai chi (see blog post for a tai chi story). As a great admirer of the art of dressage, I’ve taken riding lessons and given workshops and lessons to riders. My students cover a wide spectrum of backgrounds and motivations for taking lessons.
