Sandra's talk is titled 'Neither From Nor Toward: Radical Acceptance and the Alexander Technique' Sandra Bain Cushman graduated from Cornell University in 1977. She attended the Virginia School for the Alexander Technique under the directorship of Frank Sheldon and qualified as an Alexander Technique teacher through STAT (Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique, London, UK) in 1990 and has been a member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique since its inception. Sandra has taught the Alexander Technique in elementary schools, in a three-year continuing education initiative for public school teachers, and at the Contemplative Sciences Center, the McIntire School of Music and the Meriwether Lewis Scholars program at the University of Virginia. She is currently head of a 1600-hour teacher training program, Safe Space Together (SST) in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sandra’s collaborative approach to group teaching arises from presenting the Technique at more than 40 courses for Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft over the past 37 years. She is a former member of the Judith Leibowitz Scholarship Committee, and was longtime chair and co-chair of the Membership Committee for AmSAT.
